Summer 3rd Year Reading Books

This Summer in order to keep all of the good reading habits acquired during the school year, we are asking each student to read minimum of 20 minutes per day and finish at least 4 books over the summer.

Here is a list of required reading for second years. Remember that you may also read from the third year list if you wish. Choose 4 books from the lists. You may also substitute other books by the same authors or books recommended by a children's librarian.

Directions:

  1. Read the 4 books required before August 10th.

  2. Keep a neat list of all of these books you read with the title and the author of each book. You may also add all other books you read to this list. Keep your list in your reading folder and bring it to school the first day.

Children's Magazine for Current Events

Second and Third Year students are encouraged to read a variety of children's magazines over the summer. If you do not have any current subscriptions a vast selection is available in the children's area of the library. This is a great way to explore new sources for reading. Some popular magazines for this age level are National Geographic's World, Ranger Rick, Zillions, Cricket, Ladybug, Stone Soup, Calliope, and Muse.

Directions:

  1. Third year students need to select 3 important magazine articles with at least 300 words. The articles should be from different magazines or different issues of the same magazine. They should be current issues from June, July, or August.

The articles should be about animals, plants, geography, history, science, weather or ecology. Ecology articles may be about endangered plants, animals, and habitats or environmental problems.

  2. On a clean piece of lined notebook paper, use your best handwriting to write the title of your article. Then write at least one complete sentence about why your article is important.

  3. Keep your list of articles in your summer reading folder.

Bring your folder to school on the first day of school in August!

Enjoy your Summer!
